Use of AI in vulnerability management – NCSC assessment

01.05.2026 - Use of AI is the subject of intense debate among experts. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is receiving a growing number of enquiries on this topic from administrative bodies, the business sector and the public. For this reason, the NCSC has summarised its assessment of the use of AI in vulnerability management.

In the face of growing cyberthreats and an increasingly complex IT landscape, more and more organisations are turning to AI-based solutions to detect and assess security vulnerabilities more quickly. Advanced models are proving to be powerful tools, helping security researchers to identify vulnerabilities quickly. However, they can also be misused to develop malware more efficiently.

The NCSC is monitoring these developments closely and regards AI as highly significant for cybersecurity. Although the actual scale of autonomous cyberattacks carried out by AI remains unclear, one thing is certain: the technology is making hackers’ work much easier.

For organisations, this means that cyber resilience is becoming an even greater priority. Systematic implementation of well-established measures remains vital. Organisations can build reliable defences by keeping systems up to date, controlling access, raising staff awareness and reviewing their security measures regularly.
