Cybersecurity competence network: President Ueli Maurer holds second roundtable discussion with interested cantons

Berne, 28.11.2019 - On Wednesday, 27 November 2019, President Ueli Maurer and federal Cyber Security Delegate Florian Schütz held a second roundtable with interested cantons to discuss the design of the cybersecurity competence network. The cantons of Bern, Vaud, Zurich and Zug presented their existing concepts and provided bases for discussions on the design of the network.

The possible design of a cybersecurity competence network, for example involving specialised centres in various locations, formed the starting point for the roundtable launched by President Maurer to set out the details of a shared mission, based on the Confederation's efforts to move forward with the repositioning of the federal cyber-organisation and its Federal Council Cyber Committee, Cyber Core Group and newly appointed federal Cyber Security Delegate, by means of the national strategy for Switzerland's protection against cyber-risks and the associated implementation plan.

The discussions revealed that there is a great willingness among the cantons to contribute actively to cybersecurity in Switzerland, and that all cantons have key specialists at their disposal. They are supported in their efforts by the ETH and the EPFL, which can provide dedicated cybersecurity programmes and know-how. The federal Cyber Security Delegate, Florian Schütz, will now continue the work of coordinating the business-oriented and expedient development and expansion of the competence network, and of involving additional cantons in the network. He will work closely with the Conference of the Cantonal Governments of Switzerland (CCG), the Conference of Cantonal Justice and Police Directors (CCJPD) and the Swiss Security Network (SSN), to ensure alignment with the national strategy.
