Cyber Security Month: Tips for working people

02.10.2025 - Personal traces remain visible online for longer than intended. A thoughtless post, an open social media profile or an unsecured online account – all of these can have long-term consequences. Campaign ambassador Ivano Somaini will give an online lunchtime talk hosted by the NCSC on how to protect yourself and prevent personal data from falling into the wrong hands. Register today, places are limited.

Every day, vast numbers of fake emails, text messages and social media messages are in circulation – often with deceptively genuine sender addresses and linked to professionally replicated websites. Personalised attacks (spear phishing), in which attackers use information from social networks or publicly accessible sources to make their messages appear even more credible, are particularly dangerous.

It may seem obvious, but the less cybercriminals know about you, the harder it will be for them to create convincing scams.

  • Be very careful when sharing personal information on social networks.
  • Check the privacy settings of your social media accounts.
  • Do not allow yourself to be intimidated or put under pressure.
  • Do not enter passwords or credit card details on pages that you have opened via a link in an email or text message.
  • Do not disclose business information to people you do not know.
  • Delete emails with suspicious content immediately.
