Survey on the national contact point for cybersecurity runs until mid-July

17.06.2021 - The survey of the Swiss general public and SMEs on the further development of the NCSC's contact point for cybersecurity is in full swing. The feedback already received reveals some interesting trends. We would be pleased if you would also let us know your needs and suggestions, whether you are a private individual or an SME. The survey runs until mid-July 2021.

Refining the services of the contact point

The national contact point for cybersecurity receives reports from the general public on behalf of the National Cybersecurity Centre (NCSC). Since its creation at the beginning of 2020, the contact point has already received and classified almost 20,000 reports and, where desired, provided the person who reported the incident with first-level support. At present, reports can be submitted both via the newly designed multi-stage form, which was launched in December 2020, and directly via email. The contact point is continuously refining its services. In order to align the next steps as closely as possible with people's requirements, the NCSC is now conducting a brief survey (Only available in German, French and Italian) to ascertain their needs.

Survey on the needs of private individuals and SMEs

Existing studies and surveys show that there is a great demand for a service offering in the area of cybersecurity. Based on this data, the contact point has evaluated a number of possibilities for the further development of its offering. The results of this survey will be used to devise and prioritise possible options. The survey makes a distinction between two groups. In the first group, questions are asked about the needs of private individuals, as well as those of associations. In the second group, the survey specifically addresses SMEs and similarly organised areas such as administrations, schools and foundations.

In the first part of the survey, which is completely anonymous, information about the respondents is collected. This helps to better classify the responses. The following sections of the survey are grouped into the topics "information procurement", "communication", "knowledge", "interaction" and "reporting possibilities".

The survey takes about five minutes for private individuals, and a little longer for the SME group.

Evaluation and results

The survey is being prepared and evaluated as part of a Master's thesis (MAS IT Cybersecurity) at Bern University of Applied Sciences.

An initial interim survey evaluation is scheduled for mid-June. The survey will be completed in July 2021 and the results will be published.

The results will not only be directly incorporated into the planning and implementation of the NCSC's new website, but will also be used for the strategic orientation of the contact point itself.
